Natural Medicine: A Worthy Alternative

Natural medicine

In modern times, people have typically turned to traditional medicine to cure whatever ails them. However, a vastly different type of medicine is gaining favor over traditional M.D.’s and pharmaceutical-type medicine. This new approach to healing is commonly known as natural medicine. Its appeal stems from the lack of relief found in traditional methods, along with the side effects often associated with pharmaceutical drugs.

Proponents of natural medicine point out that there are natural alternatives available for many common medical conditions. Furthermore, many natural medicines are derived from the very same plants, fungi and herbs as their traditional counterparts.

Natural medicine might seem new to us, but it has actually been around for thousands of years. In fact, it was used successfully by many ancient civilizations. By utilizing various local plants, herbs, and fungi, many ancient cultures found what worked for them and passed this knowledge on to future generations.

Supplements

Countless people take vitamins and mineral supplements daily. Some will take multivitamins in order to compensate for a nutrient-deficient diet. Others take individual vitamins for a specific purpose.

Medical experts continue to debate whether or not we need to take vitamins and minerals to supplement our diets. Nonetheless, it cannot be denied that although the body can produce many of its own vitamins when it has the correct amount of certain minerals, we can only properly absorb minerals from food that has been grown in mineral-rich soil.

In other words, not all vegetables contain the same amount of minerals — it all depends on the composition of the soil in which they were grown. These vegetables actually absorb the minerals from the soil during the growth process. If there are no minerals in the soil, there no minerals in the food.

The Lack of Minerals

Unfortunately, our dietary woes begin long before our food reaches the supermarket. The problem is that most of the food we consume is being grown on land that has been depleted of the essential minerals needed to maintain proper health. This accounts for why most of us are starved of essential minerals. Given this, is there any wonder why we are seeing such a large increase in disease?

When our body isn’t getting the minerals it needs, in the correct amounts, sooner or later our health will suffer.

The Lack of Minerals in Vegetables

Many of us have been told by our doctors over the years that we receive all the nutrients we need from our food if we eat a “balanced diet.” Yet, how could this be the case if there are declining levels of minerals in our soil?

This situation has not gone unnoticed by the US government. Indeed, in 1936 the United States Senate (74th Congress, 2nd Session) warned the American people of major mineral depletion due to “modern” farming methods.

This shocking Senate Report was based on a study conducted by Dr. Charles Northern when he demonstrated that “countless human ills stem from the fact that impoverished soil of America no longer provides plant foods with mineral elements essential to human nourishment and health.”

This was further supported by research completed at Yale, Rutgers, John Hopkins, Columbia and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Some more information quoted from the report:

“Do you know that most of us today are suffering from certain dangerous diet deficiencies which cannot be remedied until depleted soils from which our food comes are brought into proper mineral balance?”

“Our physical well-being is more directly dependent upon minerals we take into our systems than upon calories or vitamins, or upon precise proportions of starch, protein or carbohydrates we consume.”

“Laboratory tests prove that the fruits, the vegetables, the grains, the eggs, and even the milk and the meats of today are not what they were a few generations ago.”

“It is not commonly realized, however, that vitamins control the body’s appropriation of minerals, and in the absence of minerals they have no function to perform. Lacking vitamins, the system can make some use of minerals, but lacking minerals, vitamins are useless.”

Knowing this, it becomes clear why people are turning to natural or “alternative” medicine in droves. Think about it: When was the last time your doctor suggested that one of your ailments might be connected to a mineral deficiency?

The Turning of the Tide

The majority of people who turn to reject traditional medicine in favor of alternative medicine do so because traditional medicine has let them down. Typically, these individuals suffer through a cycle of disappointment and hopelessness, with seemingly no chance of ever being cured or finding any permanent relief.
